A mentor is a teacher. They are someone who has both experience and knowledge to allow them to help others achieve their goals.

Lessons and exercises are used to help the mentee develop the required skills to move onto the next phase of fulfillment and success.

Mentors play a very important role in the achievement of success. They help people to take that next step with more ease than they would have experienced should they have attempted it on their own.

Mistakes are fine teachers, but having someone help you avoid these mistakes is better. It conserves your time, energy, and financial resources.

Thus for the sake of reducing stress, mentors are very helpful. But one can?t define a mentor as simply a stress reducer. They are also motivators.

To learn the right way to do something is fine but to actually have the will to do it is completely different. Often, we need a surge of enthusiasm to help us on our way.

A mentor is someone who is good at inspiring. Like any good teacher, a mentor can rally excitement around learning and applying what has been learned. They don?t do the work for you nor do they do all the thinking, but they are there to help increase your skill and knowledge so what you do has a higher level of success, and may even become more enjoyable.

Mentors generally work with specifics. They have knowledge and experience about a specific realm which allows them to answer questions, address concerns, and develop doable steps. It is the facts that mentors are able to create specific steps and help you fine tune your goal that makes them so instrumental to a number of people?s goals.

Many people who have used a mentor, whether it be for business, careers or personal goals have stated that their mentor helped them to focus and stay interested. Mentors are good at helping you see the long term benefits of short term goals.

But besides being able to help someone identify specific steps to reach a goal, and being able to being able to help someone develop effective strategies and skills for reaching goals, a mentor is also a friend.

Over 50% of people consider their mentor as their friend. When you work closely with someone for a common goal you can?t help feeling bonded. Mentees find their mentors to be a motivator, confidant, advisor, councilor, and a sounding board. Developing a friendship with a mentor helps the process but it is also a nice feeling to know that someone is genuinely in your corner.

There are mentors in virtually every industry and field. They are there to help guide you through the process of obtaining your goal and success.

They help reduce time consuming and costly mistakes and help you to remain focused and motivated. Overall, their purpose is to make sure you have more skills and knowledge so you can succeed.

    Jeff,
Be a single person or a group of specialists, having a mentor to guide you through the various stages of a particular task is invaluable. I have found that having a mentor to assist in growing an online business really helps in delivering results much quicker than going at it alone. Finding that mentor is the trick but once you have him or her, hold on and treasure the amount of information you will receive from their vast experience!

A very inspiring article on the role of Mentors in affiliate marketing. Their role as motivators, confidants, advisers and counselors, particularly to newbies just starting their sojourn in affiliate marketing cannot be underestimated. A very good example is the PPG mentors and their weekly challenges and the currently ongoing PPG summer contest. All these give focus and a sense of direction to new members in affiliate marketing.

You have made a good point Jeff. I have learned valuable information from the Pips Power Group that I wish I had when I first started out. It helps to have someone push you a little bit also.
    Thanks, LyleH

I am a firm believer that to succeed on the Internet, you must have mentors guiding you along the way. I have never regretted hiring my great mentors. It was a decision I would do many times over. The mentoring at the PPG/NPG has changed my business dramatically. I have seen growth that I would not have seen if I was still trying to go it alone.

Very good post about what a mentor really is. As I always say, mentors are your eyes and ears on the Internet and can save you not only a lot of time but a lot of costly mistakes too. Everyone should have a mentor.

    Hey, JC:

Thanks for this insightful look into what a true mentor is and why having at least one is so valuable: teacher, stress-reducer, motivator, inspirer, friend.

I know from personal experience that having a mentor is uplifting, encouraging and a source of regenerating new focus and energy. Anybody who does not have a mentor should seek to find one. Their personal and business life will surely benefit as a result.

    Hi Jeff,

Thank you for a great article, I couldn’t agree more with your explanation of ‘What Is A Mentor’. Having started with no help and feeling totally in the dark I can heartily agree how important a good mentor is.

Being a total convert to the PPG I now consider I have several mentors and it is very re-assuring to know that I can get help and guidance when I need it.

    keep up the great work,

    Mal.

    Hi Jeff,

I think there is another benefit to having a mentor or team of mentors, and that is that the “mentoring ethos” becomes part of your way of doing things with people who come to you. Imitation is one of the highest forms of flattery, they say!
